Joined in the erstwhile APSEB as Junior Engineer Electrical in the year 1963 and rose to the highest post of Chief Engineer in the year 1996. While in service he was appointed as Director(Projects & Distribution) by the Govt. of Andhra Pradesh in May 1999 in APTRANSCO after introduction of Reforms in Power Sector. Subsequently when the Distribution Companies were formed, he was appointed as the first Managing Director of Southern Power Distribution Company of Andhra Pradesh Limited (APSPDCL) at Tirupathi on 31.03.2000. He was subsequently made as Chairman & Managing Director of the same Utility. He was moved on to Northern Power Distribution Company of Andhra Pradesh (APNPDCL) at Warangal as Chairman and Managing Director during August 2005.

Consequent to his appointment as Special Officer by Appellate Tribunal for Electricity during June 2006, he resigned from the post of CMD /APNPDCL/Warangal

He was appointed as Additional Joint Managing Director of APTRANSCO by the Govt.of AP on 05.02.2010 before his Change of designation as Joint Managing Director as per the Govt. Orders dtd.13-4-2011

He was first to introduce HVDS in the Country. Engineers from other States visited and implemented the schemes in their states. REC has made a detailed study & sanctioned loans to various states for implementation after making an in-depth study |

He is the recipient of CBIP Jawaharlal Nehru Birth Centenary Award for the year 1993, from the Central Board of Irrigation and Power in the field of Energy Conservation and Reactive Power Managment |

He was also awarded as Best CEO for the year 2004-05 amongst Distribution Companies of 80 countries by the Association for Electricity Supply Industries of East Asia and Western Pacific (AESEAP) |

The Appellate Tribunal for Electricity, Government of India has appointed Mr.Ranganatham as Special Officer in charge of monitoring the three DISCOMs in the field of energy and placing the DISCOMs at the command, management, administration and control. The Tribunal has placed on record their appreciation of the valuable services rendered and bringing the DISCOMs on the path towards financial viability |
